Education in Cyprus
Cyprus is a beautiful island in the northeastern basin of the Mediterranean Sea, at the crossroads of Europe, Asia and Africa. Throughout the centuries, Cyprus has been a meeting place of civilizations and cultures. Cyprus is the third largest island in the Mediterranean with a population of approximately 700,000. The island has superb mountain scenery, forests, fascinating coastlines and beaches, and a rich historical and archaeological heritage bearing witness to its long and diverse history.

Cyprus enjoys a wonderful Mediterranean climate with long dry summers from mid May to mid October and abundant sunshine throughout the year. Variations in temperature and rainfall are governed by altitude and, to a lesser extent, distance from the coast. The marvelous climate of the island offers endless opportunities to nature lovers.

The official languages of the Constitution of Cyprus are Greek and Turkish, but English is widely spoken. English is also the language of instruction in the Private Institutions of Tertiary Education for the vast majority of their programs of study.
Education in Cyprus
Education system is governed by the Ministry of Education and Culture. However, a small number of vocational and post-secondary professional institutions come under the Ministries of Labor and Social Insurance, Agriculture and Health. The educational system in Cyprus supports both higher education, and informal education.
Informal education aims at providing education and training for those unable to benefit adequately from formal education. There are 5 universities in the whole of Cyprus taking in many foreign students and offering a variety of courses and student accommodation.
The international dimension of education is important in Cyprus where international students receive a quality education in a safe, friendly environment at an affordable cost. They, in turn, enrich the educational experience of local students and bring an international dimension to the culture. Lifelong friendships and networks are formed between Cypriot and overseas students which later enhances the cultural and trade relationships between the two countries.
